An Evil King is Restored

An Evil King is Restored

Unlike his father who would protect the people of Judah, Manasseh would burn them as sacrifices to idols. Unlike his father who loved God and restored the temple, Manasseh showed his irreverence by erecting idols of false gods in the temple. God would not tolerate all of this abuse and irreverence and so He allowed him to be bound and taken prisoner by the King of Assyria. While there, Manasseh humbled himself and cried out to God. And God who is rich in mercy and steadfast love, received his prayer and restored his kingdom.

2 Kings 21:20
In our last episode, we heard how God spared Hezekiah from death and gave him fifteen more years of life. We also learned that in his eagerness to impress the nation of Babylon, Hezekiah foolishly opened his gates to show a rising enemy all that Judah had to offer – and plunder. It was a naïve and costly lapse in judgment. Today we’ll learn of the reign of his son Manasseh, a stark contrast to his father’s reign of righteousness. Manasseh proves to be an evil king, far from the Lord. But as we’ll be reminded today, God is able to drive out any darkness with His perfect light.
